The wooden bowl was probably acquired by Hans Conon vdG (1807-1874), or received as a gift during his trip to Sweden in the mid-1830s. He was a government councillor in the Altenburg civil service and land marshal in the Grand Duchy of Weimar. He achieved lasting merit as one of the founders of comparative linguistics.
