Grey, salt-glazed stoneware with incised and stamped decoration, cobalt blue painting and dotted decoration. H 25 and 27 cm.

Cylinder jugs with tapered ear handles. Large leaf ornaments with stylized flower center, 1x flanked by small birds. Each with pewter lid and ball pusher, the inside partly indistinctly hallmarked. Signs of age and wear, both jugs slightly cracked, 1x slightly bumped by age.

The Westerwald stoneware offered in this auction was collected by Albrecht von der Gabelentz (1873-1933), chamberlain at the ducal court in Altenburg. He was appointed director of the Lindenau Museum in 1912. After the duke abdicated in 1918, Albrecht von der Gabelentz also took over the management of the palace museum on a voluntary basis. The collection was continued by his son Georg (1906-1954).
