5 defective Westerwald roller jugs with various animal and plant motifs.

Grey, salt-glazed stoneware with incised and stamped decoration, cobalt blue painting and dotted decoration. H 21.5 to 28 cm.
2x leaping stags and floral motifs, some with knotted band, 1x horses and star rosettes, 1x birds and heart motif, 1x floral reserve. Each with pewter lid and ball finial, partly engraved and dated, mostly hallmarked inside. Each with defects, partly repairs and additions.
The Westerwald stoneware offered in this auction was collected by Albrecht von der Gabelentz (1873-1933), chamberlain at the ducal court in Altenburg. He was appointed director of the Lindenau Museum in 1912. After the duke abdicated in 1918, Albrecht von der Gabelentz also took over the management of the palace museum on a voluntary basis. The collection was continued by his son Georg (1906-1954).
Provenance : From Thuringian aristocratic property. Restitution property with inventory number of the Altenburg Residential Palace, formerly part of the von der Gabelentz family collection at Poschwitz Castle.
