3 Westerwald roller jugs with floral decoration and animals.

Grey, salt-glazed stoneware with incised and stamped decoration, cobalt blue painting and dotted decoration. H 21.5 to 22.5 cm.
Cylinder jugs with tapered ear handles. 1x rectangular reserve with bird and flanking rosettes, 1x leaping stags and fan leaf decoration, 1x chequered pattern with rosettes and combed incised fields. Each with engraved pewter lid and ball pusher, hallmarked inside. With defects, partly restored, signs of age and use.
The Westerwald stoneware offered in this auction was collected by Albrecht von der Gabelentz (1873-1933), chamberlain at the ducal court in Altenburg. He was appointed director of the Lindenau Museum in 1912. After the duke abdicated in 1918, Albrecht von der Gabelentz also took over the management of the palace museum on a voluntary basis. The collection was continued by his son Georg (1906-1954).
Provenance : From Thuringian aristocratic property. Restitution property with inventory number of the Altenburg Residential Palace, formerly part of the von der Gabelentz family collection at Poschwitz Castle.
