Baroque Thuringian faience tankard with rare chinoiserie with Orientals. Erfurt.
Blue brush mark S. Circa 1740/50.
White glazed, colored hot-fire painting. H 26 cm.
Cylindrical body with a ribbon handle decorated with strokes, a pagoda architecture on the front flanked by an oriental horseman with a spear in a landscape and a group of people with umbrella carriers, in the sky an exotic bird and a goat on a bed of clouds. Supplemented pewter lid with spherical lid and pewter stand. Inside fine glaze crack, partially bumped, glaze defects and rubbing.
