Jean Pâris de Montmartel (1690-1766) and his goddaughter, Madame de Pompadour, mistress of Louis XV, influenced the choice of bride for the dauphin in favor of the daughter of King August III of Saxony, Maria Josepha of Saxony. Pâris de Montmartel probably received a Gotzkowsky relief service with the alliance coat of arms as a gift from Dresden on the occasion of his wedding to Marie Armande de Béthune in 1746 in recognition of his successful patronage.
