Iserlohn tobacco box: George III and Frederick the Great.
Mark remnant on the bottom. 1760s.
Base and lid embossed brass, copper wall. 3 x 16 x 5.5 cm.
Oblong box. On the unsigned hinged lid a portrait of "George III, King of the Great Britanniens" with his coat of arms and a bust of his grandfather George II (maker: Johann Heinrich Becker). Embossed base with the "Triumphi Fredericus Maximius" with 12 depictions of battles, including Mollwitz, Prague, Liegnitz, Torgau, Lobositz, Roßbach etc. (maker Johann Heinrich Giese, with signature residue). Dented and rubbed, small hairline crack at the edge of the cover.
These boxes were used to glorify the Prussian king, who emerged stronger from the Seven Years' War.
