Baroque top secretary.
18th century
Oak and other woods, solid and veneered, partly fire-shaded. 215 x 114 x 59 cm.
Secretary standing on curved legs with a curved front on a 3-panel substructure, angled console flap and 2-tier top with curved cornice and vegetal carving. The drawer, flap and doors are each decorated with marquetry mock cassettes adorned with rocailles and leaves; a total of 4 standing allegories of the seasons as marquetry on the flap and on the doors. In the writing compartment a central hollow compartment and 6 flanking drawers. In the attachment 12 drawers on the central hollow compartment; above 2 continuous compartments. Interior lined with old paper, some of the original wallpaper with floral pattern recognizable underneath. All drawers recently lined with wallpaper. 1 secret compartment. Gilt bronze fittings. Missing veneer parts on the side skirting boards, replaced fittings, signs of age and wear.
