Late Baroque round humpback chest.
Late 18th century
Walnut and burl veneered, marquetry with maple and plum, partly with fire painting, feet and base strip solid oak. 76 x 116 x 61 cm.
Decorative chest on block feet. Mock caskets on the rounded hinged lid, in the front and on the sides. In the lid cassette, standing allegory with staff at the fire pot and book in hand with monogram "CW CS", above the allegory a ribbon crown with garland-like band. In the front cassette 2 magnificent vases with a similar decorative band. The interior lined with green paper over wallpaper, with the original red marble paper partially visible underneath. Iron lock and handles, brass fittings and knob. Restored, with additions, signs of age and wear.
