Tapestry probably with a scene from the Persian campaign of Alexander the Great.

Wool and silk, twisted and dyed, woven. Approx. 224 x 266 cm.
Fine pictorial weaving with a historicizing, multi-figured antique scene. In the center two laurel-wreathed military leaders symbolically shaking hands, probably the young Macedonian King Alexander the Great and the Persian Great King Darius III, surrounded by soldiers, horses and female figures. In the background a fleet of ships and a view of a coastal town with an army in front. Border with lavish fruit decoration, birds and pedestals with female figures.
