Large Thuringian faience tankard with Herrnhut star. Erfurt.
Blue brush mark A. Circa 1740/50.
White glaze, colored hot-fire painting. H 27 cm.
Cylindrical body with a ribbon handle decorated with lines, a rocaille reserve on the front with the rare motif of the Herrnhut star, flanked by scrollwork and flowers, floral pilasters on the sides. Replaced pewter lid with ball finial, engraved "L.S. 1744", hallmarked inside, replaced pewter stand ring. Finely cracked, slightly bumped and rubbed in places.
