Baroque enamel plaque in frame: Presentation of Jesus in the temple.

Polychrome painter's enamel, heightened with gold, on slightly cambered copper panel, colorless reverse enamel, gilded wooden frame. 8.5 x 6.0 cm, frame 15 x 12.5 cm.
Enamel miniature with a slightly depressed arched border in a supplemented frame. Figural scene set in a temple with a view of the landscape: Mary kneels before the altar while Joseph holds a candle. Above the altar, the prophet Simeon holds the naked infant Jesus with a radiant nimbus, who turns towards him. In the background are other people, including Hannah. The depiction is supported by the circle of figures moving in different directions and the strong contrast between the green ground and the intensely blue temple wall. Plate in very good condition, replaced frame glued and overbronzed.
