Oriental picture niche carpet with paradise garden decoration.
Mid 20th century Keshan, Iran.
Wool, very fine hand-knotting. Polychrome decoration. Approx. 136 × 209 cm.
Curved mihrab with a hanging lantern and lateral columns, the central field with an almond medallion depicting a landscape, architecture and a reclining animal, framed by lavish flower stalks with birds and a fountain with swans. Floral patterned borders with flower bouquets and lifeblooms. Short kilim ends with fringes.
Update 22.02.26: The carpet has a few small areas of restoration and moth damage at the edges. Otherwise, it is in good condition and the pile shows no unevenness or significant wear. There are only minor signs of wear and age. The carpet is mainly made of wool, with silk used in the motifs (flowers, animals, etc.).
