"Senneh" knotted rug with Gol Farang design.
1st half 20th century Sanandaj, Kurdistan province, western Iran.
Wool, hand-knotted. Strong coloration with predominantly red, blue, brown, green and white, partly with abrasion. Approx. 212 x 136 cm.
French-style floral design based on the 19th century fashion for oriental carpets. All-over patterned central field with large "gol farang" motifs (translated as "foreign flower"), narrow border with a row of flowers. Short woven narrow sides with short fringes. Signs of age and wear, minor defects and slight staining in places, coloration somewhat faded, restored.
