The obverse of the court cards for the king and lady depict famous personalities or literary figures from French history from the Renaissance to the Rococo period, which were taken up in contemporary literature from the 1820s to the 1850s, for example from Alexandre Dumas' novels "The Lady of Monsoreau" (published in 1846; the fictionalized "Dame de Monsereau" and Louis de Clermont, seigneur de Bussy d’Amboise (1549 - 1579) ) and "Les Deux Diane" (published in 1846; Diana of Poitiers 1499/1500 - 1566), the novel "Cinq-Mars" by Alfred de Vigny (published in 1826; Henri Coiffier de Ruzé, Marquis de Cinq-Mars (1620 - 1642) and Marion Delorme (1630 - 1650) ), as well as several dramas about the life of the Chevalière d'Éon (1728 - 1810: listed here under her birth title as "Chevalier", spy, rapier fencer, diplomat, who was born a man but lived as a woman from the 1760s). The reverse monochrome pink.
