Museum whist playing cards on the Crimean War.
Colored steel engravings. 9.0 x 6.0 cm. 69,0 g.
52 sheets, maker: F. A. Lattmann (Goslar). French leaf. Museum whist playing cards for the Crimean War, circa 1853. The face cards show on the obverse rulers, queens, and military officers of the time, for example Emperor Franz Joseph I, Tsar Nicholas, Abdülmecid I., Radetzky, Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom, Queen Isabella of Spain, etc. The Crimean War (1853 - 1856) is considered by modern standards to be the first industrialized war of position. It was fought under the pretext of religious tensions in the region and the territorial and economic power interests of the European powers involved, which resulted in the political system of Europe created at the Congress of Vienna in 1815 being shaken.
