Oriental "Ghom" silk carpet with tree of life.
Circa 1970. Ghom, Iran.
Silk on silk, finely hand-knotted. Subtle polychrome decoration in predominantly ivory and blue tones. Approx. 205 x 141.5 cm.
Mihrab designed in the manner of a prayer rug with a curved pediment and a central cypress tree, flanked by bold floral scrolls, blossoms, palmettes and birds of paradise. Border with alternating large cartouches and rosettes, short fringed ends. Loops sewn to the top verso for hanging. Slight signs of age and wear, minor defects in places and slightly stained.
