Artistic "Baluch" double niche carpet.
1st half 20th century Herat Baluch, north-east Iran.
Wool and goat's hair, hand-knotted. Monochrome decoration in midnight blue, orange, brown, red and creamy white. Approx. 191 x 126.5 cm.
Extremely finely patterned prayer rug with 2 niche fields with pointed gabled mihrabs, composed of numerous narrow decorative strips and framed by several accompanying borders with a geometric flower design, ribbons, a kufi vine and hook motifs. Two-tone short kilim finishes with knotted fringes. Signs of age and wear, minor defects in places, the coloration slightly faded and no longer as intense in color.
