Alabaster, dark marble base. Early 20th century. Inscribed with date "Theodore Riviere 1901". H 53 cm. 30.3 kg.
Lächelndes Mädchen with dynamically flowing hair on a dark marble base. Smaller chips to the hair on the back of the head, base partially chipped and plinth of the base has restored cracks.
If Théodore Louis Auguste Rivière, then: French sculptor whose works are generally associated with Art Nouveau. He is considered one of the leading French sculptors of oriental motifs, influenced by his travels to North Africa and the Far East as well as his temporary stay in Carthage (Tunisia).
