High-quality full-length portrait of a man in 17th century dress with simple armor, staff and sword as well as spurs on his boots. In the background a view of the sea with two ships. Canvas relined, two restored areas with backing.
If it is the painter Gerrit van Honthorst, then the following biographical data apply: Dutch painter (1592 Utrecht - 1656 ibid.), pupil of Abraham Bloemaert, completed his training in Rome, where the works of Caravaggio in particular had an influence on himAll lots with a limit (starting price) of at least €2,000 are checked against the Art Loss Register database.

BP 145; 2006 restitution to the Ducal House of Saxony-Meiningen on the basis of § 5 Compensation Act within the framework of an amicable agreement.
