"La Bienfaisance"
Patinated bronze. inscribed "Math. Moreau", base inscription "La Bienfaisance par Mth Moreau Médaille D'Honneur au Salon". H 46.5 cm. 8.21 kg.
On a round base with inscribed plaque, a standing, lightly clad young woman reaching for a boy with one arm and wrapping him in a cloth with the other. Signs of age and wear, patina rubbed, base dented.
If it is Mathurin Moreau, then: Thieme/Becker: 1822 Dijon - 1912 Paris, sculptor in Paris, studied under his father J.-B. Moreau as well as Claude Ramey and Albert Dumont.
