On the bottom of the body in ink "W 470". Circa 1800. in a binned lid embroidery on straw: "Verfertiget von Georg Ernst Kürsten in Orlamünde".

Wood, completely covered with partly embroidered straw marquetry, inland lid made of cardboard as well. H total 57 cm. Box 12 x 65 x 50 cm.

Sewing table box with straw marquetry. Oval-shaped body with flattening of the top plate towards the wall side and wall with 4 risalites and mock drawer in the front. On the top plate with hinged lid continuous star ray motif with empty central cartouche. The walls are decorated with a row of flowers; the risalits are each decorated with a rosette. In the lid partially embroidered marquetry with fire on the antiquing altar of friendship and inscription "A La Plus Digne". (To the most worthy [woman]). Inside 9 hinged lids with partially embroidered straw marquetry: 5 wreaths and 4 castle views. Bottom of the body with oval straw marquetry. The box is filled with a variety of (recent) sewing utensils. In need of restoration, legs missing, iron frame supplemented.

Theodor Fontane mentions in his travel notes on the Prussian royal castle Freienwalde under No. 8: "Two straw sewing tables highly complicirt. Georg Ernst Kürsten from Orlamünde. In the other AWA Kings of Prussia 1803. In another place at the same table Her Majesty Luise." Built in 1799, Freienwalde Castle was the summer residence of Queen Friederike Luise (1751 - 1805), the wife of Frederick William II of Prussia.
