Baroque Thuringian faience tankard with scholar motif.
2nd half 18th century
Glazed white, painted in manganese violet, blue, yellow and red. H 26.5 cm.
Cylindrical body with a ribbon handle decorated with lines, on the front two learned young men in Werther clothing studying. Pewter lid with ball pusher, engraved "No. 15 J.D.W. 1784", punched inside, pewter stand. Pewter with defects, lid loose, finely cracked, glaze rubbed.
Provenance : From a private collection in Saxony.
