Imperial ceremonial vase with a portrait of William I of Prussia and a view of the "Altes Palais" in Berlin. KPM Berlin.

Fine polychrome painting, rich, partly etched and partly bronzed gold decoration. H 69 cm.
So-called "French vase". Ovoid body with two gold-bronzed griffin handles, cylindrical neck with crater mouth, round foot and square plinth. Royal blue ground, on both sides a medallion framed by a gold-engraved laurel wreath with German imperial crown, inside: 1x the portrait of Emperor Wilhelm I of Prussia (1797-1888) in uniform with numerous decorations. / 1x the view of the palace of Prince and later Emperor Wilhelm I of Prussia, the so-called " Old Palace" under the Linden in Berlin, after a steel engraving by Albert Henry Payne (1812-1902) and a drawing by Alexander Carse (1770-1843). 1 gryphon ear glued, 2 gryphon ears, 2 base corners and body base restored, minimal wear to 1 base edge and mouth rim.
Pompous vases with the portrait of the emperor framed by laurel branches and crowned by the imperial crown were reserved for the Prussian court and were made on behalf of Wilhelm I of Prussia as personal gifts to personalities "loyal to the emperor".
