Flemish tapestry with the Adoration of the Magi.
16th/17th century
Woven from twisted, natural-colored wool, weft of variously twisted and dyed wool and silk. Approx. 261 x 254 cm.
Artful pictorial weaving with a multi-figure scene. The central motif of Mary in a starry robe with the Christ Child, alongside Joseph and the three kings Caspar, Melchior and Balthasar presenting their gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. Numerous accompanying figures and animals, in the background a landscape with stable architecture and accompanying scenes. All-round wide border with arcade architecture, figural scenes and individual figures in niche fields as well as magnificent flower vases. Verso linen backing with rope suspension. Probably old restoration, signs of age and wear, partial defects.
