KOLBE, Georg(1877 Waldheim - 1947 Berlin)
Large bronze sculpture: Adagio
Bronze, golden brown patina. Height: 80 cm. 16.6 kg.
Early bronze cast from the late 1920s, one of 15 casts during the artist's lifetime. Model year: 1923, monogrammed on the reverse, foundry mark: H. Noack Berlin. The current verifiable edition is 25 (15 casts from 1924-1930, 10 posthumous casts from 1946 to 2003). The name "Adagio" - derived from the musical tempo marking - indicates a calm arrangement, although the hard drapery of the cubically broken garment creates a field of tension with this basic mood.
