Large Bauhaus dinner bowl. WMF Ikora.
Tower mark/WMF mark/"Ikora"/"101" marked. 1928-1935. TÜMPEL, Wolfgang (design)(1903 Bielefeld - 1978 Herdecke)
Ikora silver-plated metal, black lacquered wood. H 8 cm, Ø 35.5 cm.
Simple, flat bowl on 3 ball feet. Imprint of a ball foot on the bowl, otherwise minimal signs of age/use.
Wolfgang Tümpel was a Bauhaus designer and goldsmith. Studied at the Bauhaus Weimar under Itten, Klee, Slutzky, Schlemmer and Moholy-Nagy, then studied at Burg Giebichenstein Halle. Later lecturer at the Hamburg University of Fine Arts.
This version of the bowl was exhibited in 2019 in the special exhibition for the Bauhaus anniversary "Bauhaus_Sachsen" at the Grassi Museum Leipzig.
