KOLLWITZ, Käthe (1867 Königsberg - 1945 Moritzburg)
Tower of Mothers
Bronze, dark brown patina, with reddish highlights. Height: 28 cm. 10.7 kg.
Model year: 1938, signed on the side, foundry mark: H. Noack Berlin. The mothers standing in a circle defending their children are modelled as a round sculpture with a clear front view from which the mothers' postures are fully visible * Frau Dr. Annette Seeler, author of the catalog raisonné of Käthe Kollwitz' sculptures, confirmed after examining the original object and measuring the bronze cast described here herself that, in her opinion, it is an authorized posthumous reproduction of the model "Tower of Mothers", which Käthe Kollwitz created in 1937/38. The copy will probably be included in the next update of the catalog raisonné under the reproductions of group III.B as a copy of the model that was probably used in the picture foundry Hermann Noack, Berlin, at the end of the 1960s. .
