Art Nouveau wall hanging: Five storks.
SPERLING, Heinrich (1844 Warnkenhagen - 1924 Berlin)
235 x 74 cm.
With the artist's monogram and the weaving mark of the Scherrebek weaving school, fringes on the sides. Scherrebek, then Prussia, today Denmark (Skaerbaek). The art weaving school, founded in 1896, only existed for a short time and went bankrupt in 1903. Scherrebek wall hangings were represented at all major national and international arts and crafts exhibitions, including the 1900 World Exhibition in Paris. Partial flaws.
* Sperling, portrait and animal painter, draughtsman, father of the painter Claus Sperling, studied at the academies in Dresden and Berlin, pupil of Carl Steffeck and Paul Friedrich Meyerheim. Professor at the Kunstgewerbemuseum teaching institute in Berlin from 1893. All lots with a limit (starting price) of at least €2,000 are checked against the Art Loss Register database.
