Landscape and animal painter, son of Jacob. Student of the Düsseldorf under K. Hübner and the Karlsruhe Academy under Schirner. Further educated in Munich, Antwerp and Paris. Active in Karlsruhe (1856/67 teacher at the Academy), Munich (1868/81) and Mannheim (since 1881 gallery director).
