Hungarian painter (1844 Munkács - 1900 Endenich). Portrait with an effective coloring in contrast of bright creamy white and velvety blackish brown. Inscribed and dated, indistinct seal on the reverse. Wide blackened frame with golden flame border. Partially restored, nose with small paint chipping.

Munkácsy (actually Michael Lieb), came from the Bavarian Lieb family, which had been in Hungary for over 200 years. In 1864 he exchanged his name with that of his birthplace. Studied in Budapest, Munich, Vienna and Düsseldorf. 1872-1896 resident in Paris. 1878 Hungarian title of nobility. Resident in Endenich since 1897, works in international museums * Partner auction Bergmann.
